Who we are and what we do.

Retailer, Artist and Work In Progress John Wilson along with his partner Interior and Product Designer Hugo Arce joined forces in 2006 with fellow Designer BJ Peterson to create The Home Grown Store. It is a lifestyle store located in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles. This neighborhood along West Pico Blvd. is bordered by La Brea to the East and Fairfax to the West. Throughout the city of Los Angeles, neighborhoods are transforming, (re)emerging, attempting to bring about new life, and on no street in LA is this more apparent than along the all-too-overlooked Pico Blvd.

Moving to this Mid-City area themselves in 2000, life partners, Wilson and Arce had their hearts set on creating the kind of store they wished existed in their own neck of the woods. It was also imperative to the couple that they take part in the revitalization of this historic neighborhood, hoping to play a role in the creation of a new urban village. Both having grown up with a passion for gift giving and a love for the adventure in finding that perfect gift, three years ago Home Grown Store was born. A modern day general store filled with affordable treasures. It's one stop shopping for a birthday or wedding gift, a house warming, a baby shower, or just an out of the ordinary card. The name Home Grown Store not only reflects that Wilson and Arce live in the area but also some of the products are designed and made by them and other local artists and craftsmen. Many of the unique items found inside this lifestyle store are eclectic, uncommon, sophisticated, as well as earthy, recycled and environmentally friendly. The selection changes frequently and there's a revolving art and photography gallery.

Visit just to enjoy the ambiance. The environment is peaceful. The urban, loft-like space is brightened by a skylight, warmed by the old exposed brick wall, set off by the black, white and green color scheme. No frantic people on cell phones or signs reminding you to spend more money. Get a loving greeting from the owner's dogs Penny and Sadie. Zen tranquility envelops you as you weave your way around the displays using some of their custom designed furniture to showcase the many artistic treasures.
